Swim Stop Sophiengarten

Beschreibung
Schwimmverein Donaukanal (SVDK) revives urban swimming culture in Vienna’s Danube Canal, a water body defined as a liquid public space of more than 850.000 m2. SVDK Swimline is a series of community spaces and publicly accessible infrastructures called swim stops. Previous pilot and temporary swim stops (2020 Kunst Haus Wien, 2021 KanalWal, 2022 Alsergarten) have hosted more than 50 events with over 2.000 visitors. "Creatives for Vienna" funds will enable SVDK to launch its first permanent Swim Stop at Sophiengarten. Swim Stop will be a site-specific installation and a multifunctional social space. We aim to create a diverse programme that unite artists, designers, architects, swimmers, scientists, with a special focus on community and neighbourhood engagement.
