Persönlich nachgefragt: Hintergründe zum Projekt
How did you come up with the idea? What kind of impulse should the project have?
Markets are public spaces, and they are subject to certain rules. We already participated in a number of markets - every new start in an unfamiliar district has been a new challenge. Nevertheless socializing within the market and showing up early brought us closer to the community. Initiating a creative project in the midst of a pandemic is challenging. However, we managed to create a safe platform to prove that social exchange and culture are basic needs.
What has been the biggest challenge in the implementation so far? And what was the solution?
Each time a new participant used our manual to take part in Viennese markets, we saw how supportive the market communities are to newcomers and that the neighbourhood communities are curious to see and engage with new initiatives in the area. Some of our participants are now regularly active on the Viennese markets. It makes us happy to see Vienna locals use the market as an open space for creativity.
What project experiences would you like to share?
Our project is based on community support. We try to work with site-specific materials and this wouldn't have been possible without the market communities that are always willing and open to help. As three young professionals we got enormous support from the creative networks of Vienna and turned the project into a continuous platform thanks to collaborations with Urbanize! Festival, Place City Vienna and other partners.
