Within the sound:frame metaverse we will connect all of the spaces that we created in the course of several projects and collaborations in 2020 and 2021.
The sound:frame metaverse is a gallery space and at the same time goes beyond the function of a virtual exhibition space since you can not only watch, but also fully experience art, meet for live events and betogether with friends or meet new international people on a very easy level.
Being based in Vienna – creating this virtual space allows us to
reach out to an international audience and present Vienna‘s art and communities to the world. During the CIVA festival we reached over 6.000 people from 79 countries from all over the globe and we aim at expanding our community even further.
Persönlich nachgefragt: Hintergründe zum Projekt
How did you come up with the idea? What kind of impulse should the project have?
Since April 2020, we have created numerous "Mozilla hubs" spaces that have helped us as social web VR spaces, especially in times of physical distance, to show and experience art on the one hand and to meet people on the other. The sound:frame METAVERSE is meant to offer our international community the possibility to appropriate all these spaces themselves and to further use them for different moods and occasions such as talks, virtual parties or exhibition tours.
What has been the biggest challenge in the implementation so far? And what was the solution?
The biggest challenge for us was learning how to navigate these virtual spaces with larger groups of people and how to make the spaces as inclusive as possible without, on the one hand, already excluding a large group of people from the start and, on the other hand, generating safe spaces. We have learned a lot about facilitation and are still working on possible solutions for mediation and diverse communication strategies.
What project experiences would you like to share?
It was great to work with such diverse artists*, designers*, and protagonists over a year and a half, and to think together about what a social space, where theoretically anything is possible, can look like. It was about questions of architecture, wayfinding as well as dramaturgical, aesthetic questions or mediation, moderation and communication. Much of what we learned in the virtual space can be applied to all other areas of our lives.
Have you experienced support within your community?
All of our projects come from our community and are only possible as a collective "effort." We learn from each other daily and share our experiences to move forward many steps together. From the many ideas in the team and the learnings that already exist internationally, concepts and work emerge that carry us into the future.
