27.04.2023: A Walk in Latent Space – Generative AI in the Creative Process. Lecture with Martin Pichlmair
Veranstaltung im Rahmen der Subotron arcademy
The introduction of AI tools has unleashed a wave of fear. It has also lead to an immense boost in creativity. As these tools are maturing, it is becoming clearer what they can and can’t help us with. How flawed they are, how powerful, and how hilarious.
This event with Martin Pichlmair (CEO of Write with LAIKA, Associate Professor at ITU Copenhagen) will start out with describing how Generative AI works, how it can fit into the creative process, and what the implications are. Then it will proceed to discuss if and how it is possible to make “good” AI that empowers the user. Martin Pichlmair’s tool LAIKA will be used as an example. To round off the event, the audience and speaker will create something together with the AI.
About the speaker
Martin Pichlmair is a researcher, game developer, entrepreneur, and recovering media artist. He is Associate Professor at ITU Copenhagen, co-founder of the Vienna-based indie games studio Broken Rules, and CEO of Write with LAIKA, a company making tools for AI in creativity. He really likes hot food.
The event is a cooperation project of SUBOTRON with the Vienna Business Agency.
As part of the event, this year’s Content Vienna competition for digital design will be briefly introduced. In 2023, five production grants of 10,000 euros each will be awarded to creative, digital projects in development – from games to virtual reality to animation. In addition, two special prizes on “Digital Literacy” of 5,000 euros each will be awarded to support projects that strengthen digital literacy and the understanding of democratic processes in a digitally shaped society. These projects can range from journalistic formats to games.
The event will be held in English. Participation is possible without registration and free of charge.
