Panel discussion on the occasion of the launch of this year’s Content Vienna competition
With Content Vienna, the Vienna Business Agency supports creative professionals with 10,000 euros each in the production and further development of their projects – from games and virtual reality to animation.
In recent years, games have become increasingly important as a medium for conveying content beyond pure entertainment. The term "impact games" has replaced “serious games” to describe digital games that influence attitudes and behaviour, promote empathy and contribute to solutions to social, economic, educational, scientific, ecologic and cultural challenges.
On the occasion of the launch of this year's Content Vienna competition for digital design on 16 June, a panel on "Impact Games" is held on 15 June.
How can topics such as health, education, ecology, empathy be negotiated and communicated in games? What are the challenges and limits? How can a game or an interactive experience that deals with serious topics still be entertaining and captivate players? What requirements in game design and narration must be met? How can technological innovations be implemented? What has been learned from the challenges of gamification? What external expertise from education, research and science can be used? What needs to be considered when acquiring clients and cooperating with institutions and publishers?
The following international experts, among others, will discuss these questions and present their work:
Deborah Mensah-Bonsu, Founder dmb crew / Games for Good, London
Rosemary Lokhorst, Founder & CEO StoryByte Studio, Producer Digging Deep, Zurich
Jörg Hofstätter, Co-Owner & Managing Partner ovos, Vienna
