18.02.2023: Workshop: Culture & Technology - New ways of staging – Part II
Session with Angela Washko and Margarete Jahrmann as part of CIVA festival
From exhibition design to the performing arts and exhibition games, digital technologies are shaping the future of how we experience art and culture.
This Workshop session brought together by the Vienna Business Agency and CIVA, invites you to take a deeper look into the work of the feminist US-American artist Angela Washko, and the approaches of the ludic artist and head of the new department Experimental Game Cultures at die Angewandte, Vienna, Margarete Jahrmann.
In a performance lecture Angela Washko will give us a deeper insight in her artwork The Game: The Game that is based on extensive research in the seduction community, and exposes the unsettling, deeply misogynistic practices of a real community of men that gamify the unequal gender dynamics of everyday life.
Margarete Jahrmann will talk about her collaborative and interdisciplinary artistic practice, how she explores ludic art and activism. She will show her “exhibition games“, including curatorial work, her own hybrid performative and installative art pieces, dealing with neuroscientific research and technologies, emerging fields of the art and design of play and the human condition. She will launch a call, open to all participants for a prototyping session on LUDIC PLAY WORK: artistic research, that evolves around the concept and idea of a Ludic society and method of activist and politically conscious play — with the aim to introduce game changer games.
What unites the two artists is their exciting and novel use of digital technologies like machine learning, virtual reality, generative design and gaming strategies and their innovative approach to working in the context of museums, theatres, festivals and other cultural institutions.
Join this live session at the CIVA festival and exchange ideas with the artists and other museum and theatre professionals, creative producers, artists and creative technologists.
